ATA Turk Kadinlari Birligi is a non-profit 100% volunteer run organization to help provide education to socio-economically disadvantaged girls in Turkey.

ATA Turk Kadinlari Birligi (ATA TKB) was formed with the encouragement of, Consulate General of Turkey in Houston to provide support and opportunity to underprivileged girls of school age who would like to pursue their education, a right guaranteed under the principles of Ataturk, but who do not have the financial resources to fulfill this goal. We believe that young girls, as future mothers and parents are important individuals of society who will mold future generation in Turkey. Only through contemporary education can a society move forward. Thus, this group was founded to support this important goal.

ATA TKB has decided to support CYDD (Association for Support of Contemporary Living) project titled “I Have a Daughter in Anatolia” (Anadolu'da Bir Kızım Var). It is a project that provides scholarships to only elementary, middle and high school age girls who are not able to attend school for monetary reasons. If the girls who receive the scholarships pass the college exam at the end of high school, then the scholarships are continued until they graduate from university. At this time, CYDD focuses in supporting female students in the neighborhoods of Ankara that has the most underprivileged students. The progress of the students are continuously monitored by their school teachers and CYDD. CYDD accepts donations for scholarships twice a year 240 TL/per semester, per student, for a total of 480 TL per year, per student. Scholarship donations are paid in February and in October of each year. Scholarships are given directly to the students by CYDD. The goal of CYDD is to provide scholarships to 100,000 students so that they can receive scientific, secular, and modern education. ATA TKB has decided to donate $360 per year per female student (480 TL). ATA TKB will transfer the accumulated funds to CDYY bank account via an ACH transaction twice a year, in October and in February.

Payment Method: Credit or debit card payment options are available on our web site (www.tkb.atahouston.org)

You can do a one-time donation of $360 or monthly $30 to support one female student for one school year. However if you want to contribute to the joint pool you can choose that option and contribute in increments of $10. Please remember to print your payment confirmation after your payment for tax deduction purposes.
If you want to write a check please make checks payable to: ATA Houston and at the bottom left hand corner of the check’s memo section please write TKB donation and mail the check to Deniz Demirors, 2319 Bending Spring Drive, Pearland, TX 77584. At the end of 2010 you will be provided a receipt for your donation so you can deduct it from your taxes.   Your donation is 100% tax deductable.

Why Educating Girls?

1) As female education rises, fertility, population growth, and infant and child mortality fall and family health improves. 2) Women's increased earning capacity has a positive effect on child nutrition. 3) Children — especially daughters — of educated mothers are more likely to be enrolled in school and to have high...er levels of educational attainment. - The Population Reference Bureau, 2000
